VALE ZAK ZAKLAN

It is with the heaviest of hearts that the RVAA Committee announces the passing of our dear friend, committee member and founding member, Zak Zaklan, on 8th December 2024.  Zak was participating in a motorcycle tour in Western Australia when he was involved in an accident and passed.
It was only this year that Zak organised and hosted RV members at Serpentine for our AGM.  We all remember that warm welcoming face of Zak when we arrived at Serpentine.  Zak was a very active member of the RVAA making contributions from day one at Echuca.  I know that Zak was a much loved and valuable contributor to general aviation in Western Australia and served many years on various committees advancing aviation in Australia.  He will be missed by one and all.

I spoke to Zak only a few days ago when he confirmed that he had booked accommodation for next year’s AGM in Southport and was looking forward to the longest flight route we have in Australia.  In recognition of Zak’s extraordinary history of flying west to east and back again supporting general aviation in Australia. The Committee has agreed to strike a perpetual trophy in Zak’s honour.  The Longest Distance Flown to the RVAA AGM trophy will be known as the “Zak Zaklan Perpetual Trophy” in Zak’s honour.

Zak’s funeral will be held on:
Date: 27th Dec 2024
Time: 2:00 pm
Place: Purslowe and Chipper, 239 Great Eastern Highway in Midland
There will be a gathering at the Hillview Golf Club on Kalamunda Road after the Funeral.

The RVAA on your behalf has sent a floral tribute to Chris Zaklan and family.

Committee member and Zak’s good friend Shirley Harding can be contacted via her email on the Contacts page on the website should anyone have a need to reach out to Zak’s family

Our best wishes to Zak’s family and friends from the RVAA members.
